Center for Data Innovation holds webinar on European AI Priorities

On 25 March, the Center for Data Innovation hosted an open webinar entitled ‘European AI Priorities Over the Next 6 Months’. The event was held instead of the European AI Policy conference, which has been postponed to December, due to the current COVID-19 crisis.

Speakers included Elijus Čivilis, Vice-Minister, Ministry of the Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania, Eline Chivot, Senior Policy Analyst, Center for Data Innovation (moderator), Sylwia Giepmans-Stepien, Manager Public Policy and Government Relations, Google, Irina Orssich, Team leader AI (CNECT A2, Technologies and Systems for Digitizing Industry), European Commission, and Magdalena Piech, Head of Regulatory Affairs, Allegro & Chair, European Tech Alliance.

The speakers discussed what the current pandemic could mean for the European Commission’s new AI and Data Strategies, including whether data sharing and access should be reconsidered and intensified to enable stronger regional unity. Topics also included how European stakeholders may find the right balance between regulation and innovation in the development of AI technologies, where ethical aspects are becoming increasingly prioritised.
