The CEPIS Legal and Security Issues expert group has prepared a statement opposing the European Commission’s planned new regulation to oblige the communication services providers (e-mail, messaging, video conferencing, etc.) to monitor all content, even if it is encrypted. The regulation is to be published before the end of 2021 or soon after. CEPIS urges the Commission, the European Parliament and the governments of the EU member states to prevent this regulation, which it sees as a serious and far-reaching violation of fundamental rights.
