The European DIGITAL SME Alliance and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission have launched a Focus Group consisting of nearly 40 artificial intelligence (AI) specialists working in and for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). The group’s main task is to monitor the development, uptake and impact of AI by SMEs and to provide feedback on their policy and regulatory needs.
The group will examine how AI changes the international business environment and its internal processes. Attention will also be paid to the social and economic impacts of these changes, such as on skills, recruitment, and employer-worker relations. At the same time, the group will informally discuss more current topics, for instance, how AI can contribute to the fight against COVID-19. European DIGITAL SME Alliance will work with the AI experts to develop position papers and policy papers on AI from the perspective of SMEs.
The Focus Group is a part of the European Commission’s initiative, ‘AI Watch’, which monitors the development, uptake and impact of AI in the EU.
