EU Commissioner Gabriel calls for more gender balance in ICT

Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research and Education, spoke at the Digital Europe Conference on 6 February in Brussels, calling for more gender balance in ICT. She mentioned that women make up 52 percent of the general population but, in the ICT sector, only 15 percent are female. She proposes the emergence of “role models” for young women as one way of attracting more female candidates to pursue a career in this field.
