Europe needs to do more to attract IT talent from outside the region, which is challenging in particular for start-ups and smaller companies, according to an article published in Euractiv. The inflow of skilled workers is currently not sufficient to fill the long-standing shortage of tech talent for European businesses.
Initiatives to improve the situation include the revision of the ‘Blue Card Directive’, a proposal to enhance the entry conditions for highly-skilled workers from non-EU countries. Another initiative is the ‘EU talent pool’ – a matchmaking platform based on an expression of interest model. This proposal is expected to be included in the Talent and Skills Package that the European Commission will present early in 2022.
