The European Commission recently published the 2020 Women in Digital (WiD) Scoreboard. It shows that, despite various initiatives, women in Europe are still less likely than men to pursue digital careers or have advanced ICT skills.
While the gender gap has narrowed for basic digital skills (from 10.5% in 2015 to 7.7% in 2019), the gap in advanced skills remains prominent – only 18% of ICT specialists in Europe are women.
According to the new data, the gap is the narrowest in Finland, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands, while women in Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Italy are least likely to pursue digital careers.
