The European DIGITAL SME Alliance has released a comprehensive guide to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) navigate the updated Network and Information Systems Directive (NIS2). The new “DIGITAL SME Blueprint Guide to the NIS2 Directive for SMEs” aims to close a growing knowledge gap, with over half of surveyed SMEs unsure how to meet clients’ cybersecurity expectations under the revised EU legislation.
Although many SMEs are not directly regulated by NIS2, the directive emphasizes supply chain security, raising the bar for suppliers working with critical entities. Poor communication and unclear contractual obligations have made it difficult for SMEs to allocate cybersecurity resources effectively. The new guide offers clear steps, practical tools, and alignment with ISO/IEC 27001 standards to help SMEs demonstrate trustworthiness and compliance.
DIGITAL SME has also launched a dedicated NIS2 Hub, a central platform offering resources, updates, and a technical consultation to better understand the cybersecurity needs of SMEs. The initiative aims to strengthen the role of SMEs in Europe’s digital security landscape and ensure they remain competitive, resilient, and trusted supply chain partners.
