In a bid to pave the way for an inclusive digital future, the Regional Forum for Europe, titled “Accessible Europe: ICT 4 ALL,” will take place in Madrid, Spain on December 13-14, 2023. The event, jointly organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the European Commission (EC), and co-organised by AccessibleEU, of which CEPIS is an associate partner, aims to address the pressing need for enhanced ICT accessibility across the European region and beyond. The event is hosted by Fundación ONCE and supported by the Government of Spain as a part of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
With a diverse audience encompassing policymakers, civil society representatives, academia, and industry leaders, the two-day event promises to be a significant convergence point. The agenda is packed with discussions, knowledge-sharing sessions, and opportunities for collaboration to fortify the foundation for an inclusive digital ecosystem.
The first day will spotlight the pivotal role of ICT accessibility as a cornerstone for an inclusive digital society, economy, and environment. Sessions will navigate through European regulatory frameworks, UN perspectives on digital accessibility, and feature a pitching session showcasing innovative solutions from various companies. Attendees will participate in a public vote to acknowledge the most impactful solutions presented.
The second day will delve into the current state and best practices in web accessibility, exploring themes such as universal design, AI, emerging technologies, and the Metaverse. These discussions aim to chart a path forward for embracing technological advancements while ensuring inclusivity for all.
The event is free to attend and is organised in a hybrid format. It will offer captioning in English, simultaneous translation into Spanish during the opening ceremony, and the International Sign System and induction loop to enhance accessibility.
