New actions on green digital transformation

During the Digital Day 2021, two important steps were taken to move towards Europe’s goals for green digital transformation. The first is a declaration to accelerate the use of green digital technologies for the benefit of the environment, signed by 24 EU Member States and Norway and Iceland. The signatories committed to support the development of green solutions in Artificial Intelligence, cloud and blockchain infrastructure, public procurement, smart cities and other fields.

The second action is a Declaration to support the Green and Digital Transformation of the EU, signed by CEOs of 26 major tech companies. They committed to invest in the development and deployment of greener digital technologies and services, develop methods and tools to measure the net impact of green digital technologies on the environment and climate by working together with NGOs and other stakeholders, and, together with representatives of other sectors, work on recommendations for green digital transformation.

These actions aim to bring Europe closer to being the first climate-neutral continent by 2050, a key goal of the European Green Deal.
