During the lockdown period in Cyprus, which started on March 16th, the Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) and the ICDL Cyprus personnel continued working remotely from their homes.
Immediately after the announcement of the lockdown, free-of-charge distance learning sessions were introduced with the support of CCS members. These were offered to trainers, educators and the general public in order to support them in the personal development. Currently more than 20 sessions have been offered to more than 1000 participants in topics related to digital skills, educational resources, training methods and material, online training tools and various software presentation and implementation tips. It should be noted that although the lockdown measures have been suspended, due to the high demand, the courses are still being offered.
In addition, CCS has joined forces with the #supportCY initiative, where businesses and NGOs have been supporting the Cypriot government through various initiatives against COVID-19.
Due to the pandemic, all CCS’s major public events have been postponed or cancelled for this year, such as Robotex Cyprus, the 1st Technological Summer Camp, WRO Cyprus and the Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics. However, their online activities and events, such as the training of the Cyprus Cyber Security team and the Cyprus Informatics Olympiad, continue to be held.
