Computer Science in Education: By Humans, For Humans – Vienna, 13-14 May

The Austrian Computer Society (OCG), together with CEPIS, will be hosting an international symposium titled Computer Science in Education: By Humans, for Humans on May 13–14, 2025. The event will take place at the OCG headquarters in Vienna’s first district.

As technology continues to shape our world, the role of computer science extends far beyond algorithms and code. This conference explores the essential humanistic aspects of computer science—ethics, creativity, social impact, and inclusivity—at every stage of education. From early learning to advanced research, we aim to bridge the gap between technical proficiency and human-centered thinking, ensuring that future generations of technologists develop with both innovation and responsibility in mind.

The symposium will bring together leading experts, policymakers, and educators from across Europe to discuss advancements, challenges, and opportunities in teaching computer science at various educational levels.

The programme includes three key sessions:

  • Computer Science in Higher Education (May 13, 09:00 – 12:30)
  • Computing as a Foundation for Empowered Citizens (May 13, 13:30-18:00)
  • Computing – Empowerment in Action (May 14, 09:00-14:00)

The event will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive presentations. A special session on May 14 will showcase 60-second research pitches and poster presentations by young researchers and PhD students.

Master’s and PhD students are invited to submit their research for the Call for Posters. More details and contact information are available via Ronald Bieber (ronald.bieber@ocg.at) and Sandra Pillis (pillis@ocg.at).

Register for the event here. The event is free to attend. However, the places are limited, so register to secure your place quickly. Join us in reimagining computer science education as a discipline that not only builds systems but also empowers people!
