Have Your Say: Digital Europe Programme Evaluation

The European Commission has opened a public consultation on evaluating the Digital Europe programme, due to the requirement to conduct a mid-term review of the programme’s effectiveness.

The target audience includes all types of stakeholders, from governments to the private sector, and the general public. The deadline for responding to the consultation is 20 September 2024.

Digital Europe is an EU funding initiative which aims to bring digital technology to businesses, individuals, and public administrations. Initially budgeted at €7.5 billion for 2021-2027, the budget increased to €8.168 billion following the adoption of the EU Chips Act in 2023, which added semiconductor technology as a strategic focus.

The programme’s goal is to support digital transformation in industry and public administration, enhancing the EU’s strategic autonomy and competitiveness. Key areas of focus include high-performance computing, cloud-to-edge infrastructure, data spaces, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, workforce upskilling, technology deployment in sectors like energy and climate, and semiconductors. This investment benefits Europe’s people and businesses, especially SMEs, aligning with the EU’s green transition and digital transformation objectives.

The results of the consultation will be included in an evaluation report and contribute to shaping the programme’s priorities for the remainder of its duration.
