New ‘She goes AI’ Initiative Aims to Boost Women’s Participation in Artificial Intelligence

A new Austrian initiative, She goes AI, has been launched to encourage more women to develop AI skills and pursue careers in artificial intelligence. The initiative responds to a significant gender gap in the sector: women currently represent only 22.6% of AI specialists in Austria. Through accessible training opportunities, practical learning and career support, She goes AI aims to open more pathways into the field.

The She goes AI – Connect network was officially launched on 15 June 2026, bringing together representatives from government, industry, academia and civil society. The Austrian Computer Society (OCG) is supporting the initiative by contributing its expertise and professional networks to help strengthen women’s participation in AI and digital technologies.

The initiative highlights the importance of diversity in AI development, arguing that broader representation leads to fairer, more innovative and more effective AI solutions. It also seeks to address the growing demand for AI talent by ensuring more women have opportunities to contribute to shaping the technologies of the future
