The Italian Computer Science Olympiad (OII), a major initiative to promote programming and algorithmic thinking among high school students, is set to culminate its 2025 edition with national finals in Udine from 23 to 25 September. The competition, launched in 2000 and involving over 250,000 students to date, is organised by the Ministry of Education and Merit in collaboration with AICA – Associazione Italiana per l’Informatica e il Calcolo Automatico, a long-standing promoter of digital skills in Italy and a member of CEPIS.
This year’s finals will bring together 200 top students from across the country at ISIS A. Malignani in Udine, accompanied by their coaches and teachers, for a total of 350 participants.
For the first time, Italy will also host the Balkan Olympiad in Informatics (BOI) in the same venue from 25 September to 1 October 2025. The event will welcome over 100 students from Balkan and invited countries, fostering international collaboration in digital education.
Adding to the significance of the week, AICA will hold its annual Congress during the BOI, bringing together industry professionals, educators, and policymakers. On 30 September, a special roundtable discussion featuring CEPIS experts will explore key trends in informatics education and digital policy across Europe, highlighting Italy’s pivotal role in shaping future digital competencies.
