Cedefop Releases Publications on Adapting VET for Green and Digital Future

The European Centre for the development of Vocational Training (Cedefop) has recently released several publications as part of its “AI futures of work” project.

The first report, released at the beginning of this year, summarises the first results of Cedefop’s survey on AI in jobs. The preliminary findings reveal that over a quarter of Europe’s adult workforce is already exploring the use of AI in their jobs. With 60% of employees likely to experience changes in their tasks due to AI, it’s clear that upskilling, reskilling, and enhancing AI literacy will be essential to driving a human-focused AI transformation that strengthens Europe’s competitive edge.

The second publication, “VET needs to go digital”, draws on Cedefop’s second European Skills and Jobs Survey (ESJS2) to advocate for a renewed digital skills push in VET. It highlights that VET graduates face challenges in continuously updating their digital skills and stresses the need for inclusive, cross-sectoral policies with a strong emphasis on the ongoing development of VET educators.

Finally, Cedefop has recently released a practical guide for “Meeting skill needs for the green transition.” The guide emphasizes the importance of robust skills intelligence and effective governance in advancing the green transition, demonstrating VET’s practical role. It outlines how skills planning, apprenticeships, and flexible learning paths like upskilling, reskilling, validation, and microcredentials support a more sustainable future.
