European Commission Seeks Experts for New AI Scientific Panel

The European Commission has launched a call for experts to join a new AI Scientific Panel, set up to advise the European AI Office and national authorities on the implementation and enforcement of the AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689).

The panel will provide independent expertise across areas including the evaluation of general-purpose AI (GPAI) capabilities and impacts, risk assessment methodologies, technical safeguards, systemic misuse, cybersecurity threats, model security, emergent risks, and compute measurement standards.

Applicants must demonstrate multidisciplinary expertise in AI or related fields, independence from AI providers, and a proven record of scientific impact. A PhD or equivalent experience is required, and at least 80% of the panel will be drawn from EU and EFTA/EEA nationals, though applications are open worldwide.

Selected experts will serve in a personal capacity, ensuring impartiality and objectivity. Remuneration will be provided for contributions, alongside travel and subsistence reimbursement.

The deadline for applications is 14 September 2025, 18:00 CEST.

More information and application form can be found on the European Commission’s website.
