Have Your Say: Consultation on Data Use in AI and Data Union Strategy

The European Commission has opened a public consultation seeking views on the use of data in Artificial Intelligence (AI), the simplification of data rules, and international data flows. The feedback will inform the development of the forthcoming Data Union Strategy, a key initiative aimed at reinforcing Europe’s digital sovereignty and AI capabilities.

The Data Union Strategy will guide the EU in building high-quality, interoperable, and diverse datasets essential for AI development. It will also ensure coherence between data-related policies, infrastructures, and legal frameworks, while strengthening trust in cross-border data sharing and supporting common European data spaces.

Announced by President Ursula von der Leyen in her political guidelines, the strategy is central to Europe’s ambition to become a global leader in AI. It will particularly support the responsible growth of generative AI by ensuring access to trusted and well-governed data sources.

The Commission is inviting academia, researchers, industry stakeholders, and the wider public to contribute their views. The consultation is open until 18 July 2025.
