The European Commission has published the 2021 update of the Rolling Plan for ICT standardisation. The Plan emphasises the critical importance of standardisation in the field of digital skills, citing the European e-Competence Framework (eCF) as an example of successful progress. The Plan calls for further progress towards a comprehensive framework for ICT professionals in line with the 4 building blocks of IT professionalism. It also calls for more public-private investment in Artificial Intelligence (AI), and to continue efforts on ethics and building trust in AI including transparency/explainable AI and privacy.
All in all, this comprehensive document identifies around 180 actions under four thematic areas: key enablers and security, societal challenges, innovation for the single market and sustainable growth. The aim of the document is to highlight areas in ICT where standardisation would help achieve EU policy goals.
