The CEPIS Women in ICT Expert Group, which created the DiversIT Charter, is organising a workshop on “Empowering voices: the potential of inclusive language”, in which we will delve into the transformative power of gender-inclusive language. The workshop is free to attend and will take place on June 29, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 CEST. It is the second workshop in the DiversIT Charter series, “Your People, Your Potential – Tools for Impact”.
Language is one of the ways through which unintentional exclusion and discrimination can happen. This is why it is important to set up guidelines to ensure that we all communicate in an inclusive way. The German Informatics Society (GI), a Gold Certified Member of the DiversIT Charter, developed and has recently updated gender-inclusive guidelines for the German language. During this workshop, Elisabeth Schauermann, Team Lead from GI, will guide the participants through the background, development process, and rationale behind the language guidelines.
During the session, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on challenges and opportunities for inclusive language in their own native and working languages. Together, we will explore diverse language realities, share experiences, and think collectively about practical approaches for implementing inclusive language policies in our own businesses and organisations.
The workshop will provide an opportunity to network with like-minded DiversIT Charter members and friends and start working towards a better solution for your inclusive language policies.
