World-renowned software developer and entrepreneur Charles Simonyi has been awarded the John von Neumann Professorship at the ceremonial opening of the 245th academic year of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME). EU Cyber Resilience Rules Strengthen Digital Product Security
The European Commission has announced the start of new reporting obligations under the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), aimed at improving the cybersecurity of digital products across the EU. From 11 September 2026, manufacturers must rapidly report actively exploited vulnerabilities and serious security incidents affecting products with digital elements.

The Icelandic Computer Society, Ský, has successfully renewed its certification under the CEPIS DiversIT Charter, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to promoting gender equality, diversity, and inclusion across Iceland’s digital sector. EU AI Act Transparency Rules Enter into Force
On 2 August 2026, a significant new phase of the EU AI Act took effect. New transparency obligations now apply to providers and deployers of certain AI systems, including chatbots, AI-generated content, deepfakes, emotion-recognition systems, and biometric categorisation tools.
‘Chat Control’ Regulation: Status Update
Just before its summer recess, the European Parliament has approved a renewed temporary derogation from the ePrivacy Regulation, extending the framework commonly known as “Chat Control 1.0”. Although more MEPs voted against the proposal than in favour, opponents failed to reach the absolute majority required to reject the Council’s position under the second reading procedure. An amendment adopted during the vote ensures that encrypted communications remain excluded from the measure.
