‘Ethics as a Service’ – bringing Ethical AI from principle to practice
A group of researchers have recently coined the term ‘Ethics as a Service’. The term means the provision of ethical assistance, advice or guidance into AI development, use and design.
ITPE’s ethics webinar-livestream held in February
Last month, ITPE held a webinar focused on ethics in IT. Carina Dantas (Shine 2Europe) presented ‘Bringing ethics to work’, highlighting the methods and frameworks developed to foster professional ethics and ways to implement them in practice. Clare Thornley (Clarity Research) shared her insight on the impact of science fiction on our understanding of ethical behaviour.

The next ITPE webinar ‘Responsibility in tech – ethical challenges for IT professionals’ will take place on 15 February at 10:00 CET. We will discuss the responsibility of IT professionals when developing new technologies that may have legal/ethical implications related to e.g., data usage or biased algorithms.
G20 releases Ministerial Declaration on digitalisation of education
The G20 countries have issued a Ministerial Declaration on digitalisation of education, which emphasises the importance of promoting human-centred technological development and addressing the digital divide in research and higher education as well as mitigating the security risks in digital environments.

Three EU-funded projects on professional ethics – SIENNA, SHERPA and PANELFIT – will discuss their findings and policy options for ethical governance of disruptive technologies at the Panel for Future Sciences and Technologies held on 23 March.
IFIP publishes Code of Ethics
The International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) has published their Code of Ethics which will also be brought out as a book later this year. The Code outlines principles that IT professionals should aspire to.
